Veeam Backup & Replication is a comprehensive data protection and
disaster recovery solution. With Veeam Backup & Replication, you can create
image-level backups of virtual, physical, cloud machines. Backup systems are
one of the best protections against business interruptions however they also
provide a “map” to where critical data is stored on the network, enabling
more targeted attacks that are less likely to be discovered until it’s too late.
Myota’s BucketZero Object Storage is an S3-compatible service designed to
allow secure your storage backup infrastructure while allowing continued
access to the data and protecting it outside threats. Myota’s BucketZero
Object Storage is compatible with all applications that support S3 object
storage, including Veeam Backup & Replication.
Veeam Backup & Replication benefits from using Myota’s BucketZero Object
Storage by protecting centralized backup storage systems during active
ransomware outbreaks and simplify recovery of any data affected.
Myota + Veeam provides detection, prevention, and recovery from
ransomware attacks which have evolved to target backup data. Attackers
understand that compromising backup system makes the follow-on
ransomware more effective because organizations can’t recover data.
Myota + Veeam Cyberstorage Use cases
Myota’s BucketZero backup infrastructures options
Myota’s BucketZero Object Storage is classified as an (S3 compatible) object
storage by Veeam.
Myota BucketZero Object Storage can be configured to protect Veeam
backups as, capacity, archive tier and NAS targets.
- Capacity tier is an additional tier of storage that can be attached to a
scale-out backup repository. Data from the scale-out backup
repository performance extents can be transported to the capacity tier
for long-term storage.
- You are running out of storage space.
- Your organization policies allow you to store only a certain amount of data on your extents, while the outdated data should be stored elsewhere.
- You seek to store data on several sites to ensure its safety in case of a disaster.
With capacity tier you can:
- Move inactive backup chains to the capacity extent
- Copy new backup files as soon as these files are created
- Download data that was moved from the capacity extent back to the
performance extents - Restore your data.
- Archive tier is an additional tier of storage that can be configured to use Myota BucketZero Object Storage as attached to a scale-out backup repository. Data from the capacity extent of the scale-out backup repository can be transported to the archive tier for archive storage.
The cost of protecting archived data in the archive tier is reduced over that
than in the capacity tier with Myota as both Tiers benefit from a flat, Zero-Trust, resilient cyberstorage architecture. Additionally, restoring data from the archive tier is no longer more expensive compared to the capacity tier as data no longer must be prepared for restore from the archive tier.
This feature is most useful in the following cases:
- You have a lot of rarely (no more than once a quarter) accessed data
that has to be stored in an archive. - You want to save costs and/or space on storing archived data.
The following types of backup files are suitable for archive storage:
- Backup files with GFS flags assigned
- VeeamZIP backup files
- Exported backup files
- Orphaned backups
- Backups created with Veeam Backup for Red Hat Virtualization
- Backups exported by K10 policies
Solutions
Veeam Backup & Replication provides VM backup as the main use case that
can use SOBR repository as a target device of backup where data will be
stored. Myota repository can be used as a Capacity Tier repository in SOBR.
Veeam Backup & Replication also provides files and folders backup in NAS
server. This configuration is slightly different from VM backup in terms of
repository definition. SOBR can be a target device as a Primary repository and
a Secondary repository in NAS backup. Unlike SOBR that cannot configure
object storages as an Archive Tier repository, NAS backup supports object
storages directly for archive repository where Myota repo can be configured.
VM Backup
Veeam Backup & Replication produces image-level backups of VMs. It treats
VMs as objects, not as a set of files. When you back up VMs, Veeam Backup &
Replication copies a VM image, at a block level. Image-level backups can be
used for different types of restore, including Instant Recovery, entire VM
restore, VM file recovery, file-level recovery and so on. The backup technology
is typically used for VMs with lower RTOs. When the primary VM fails, you need
some time to restore VM data from a compressed and deduplicated backup
file.
NAS Backup
With Veeam Backup & Replication + Myota you can easily backup and restore content of
various NAS file shares. The solution can be flexibly scaled to reliably protect massive amounts
of data, even for the largest of enterprise organizations.
